Firdaus: I had an entrepreneurial streak right from my graduation leading me to start my first business even while holding a job. When I found out about the dishonest and unethical ways of the owners of my second workplace, I decided to leave the job and start my own business in a proper manner.
Effenkay Corporation offers a holistic business support programme to SME owners. Some of our services include business coaching, marketing, sales, mergers and acquisitions, and other consultancy services.

The most effective way of raising awareness has so far been word of mouth followed by listing on web directories.

GL: What advice would you give to a new entrepreneur setting up their first business?

Firdaus: Be sure that you have enough resources or the source for resources – financial and otherwise. Starting off with a limited budget affects your business growth to a large extent and you have to miss many opportunities.

GL: What is the next big thing on your business agenda?

Firdaus:
Creating a large network of professionals in India who can mentor and coach young business owners in all aspects of running a business profitably.

GL: We would love to know the person behind the entrepreneur.

  • Every day I wake up at? 6 a.m.
  • The first thing I do when I wake up? A short prayer.
  • Three things I do to unwind/ relax? Read, travel and listen to music.
  • When I face a big challenge? I look at it as an outsider and follow my conscience while searching for solutions.
  • The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given? Not to give up once you have decided the course of action.
  • The one book everyone should read? A prayer book
