GL: Congratulations for winning at the Telangana State Industries Awards. You established S R Hatcheries more than two decades ago. Share with us your business journey.

RR: Thank you! I finished my post-graduation in veterinary science in the year 1989. Having worked as technical advisor in two reputed hatcheries for six years, I gained expertise in the technicalities of breeding farming and marketing. In 1996-97, along with Dr. A Tirupathi Reddy we started own breeding farm and hatching unit, SR Hatcheries Private Limited, with 8,000 broiler breeders and eventually reached to 500,000 broiler breeders. We then expanded our business by starting poultry feed plant with 3,000 tons per month capacity initially in the name and style of Rohini Minerals Pvt Ltdin the year 2004-05 and reached 40,000 tons production capacity per month with the most modern feed milling technology.

Innovation is the foundation of a successful business in the long run. We believe in constant innovation in breeding, hygiene, performance, sustainability and animal welfare.

We have actively pursued policies to improve the industry and aid the farming community. I am president of the Poultry Breeders Association and Member of Parliament from Chevella constituency.

GL: How important is innovation in your line of business?

RR:
Innovation is the foundation of a successful business in the long run. We believe in constant innovation in breeding, hygiene, performance, sustainability and animal welfare. We have a sales volume of around 5 million broiler chicks per month.

We also follow innovative people management practices. We have built a strong family culture in the organisation wherein all employees are treated as family members.

GL: Your business has achieved phenomenal growth. What are challenges for your business to grow bigger, better and faster from here?

RR:
Some of the challenges include availability of raw materials for feed, disease prevention and depletion of ground water. In order to circumvent these we are trying out alternate raw materials, improving vaccination and conserving water.
